I think this is one of the things that annoys me most about the people who argue against environmental laws by saying, “But global warming isn’t real!” Regardless of the reality of global warming, emitting harmful substances into the air, water and land can’t be good for us. Destroying habitats which bring ecological balance not only to local communities but also to the global community can’t be good for us. Ignoring the simple fact that we can not sustain wasteful, inefficient use of natural, non-renewable resources indefinitely can’t be good for us. Ignoring the very real results of bad environmental practice (incorrect disposal of toxic waste, over-farming creating soil erosion and flooding, dead zones in the ocean killing plant and animal life, the unbelievable amounts of non-biodegradable waste simply piling up, etc.) can’t be good for us.
In the long run, there is absolutely nothing to be gained by pretending that the planet we live on can handle infinite amounts of human over-consumption, wastefulness, and stupidity, except a good bit of money in the short-term. If we’re all dead, though, as a result of trashing our planet and not having clean air to breathe, safe water to drink, or any of way of growing/raising anything edible, what good is all that money?

Quoted for fucking truth.
