squashed: “I am confident that Senator Obama has somebody in mind for secretary of defense but Gates - you know, it’s interesting, my conversation with Secretary Gates, he’s not even a Republican. Why wouldn’t we want to keep him? He’s never been a registered Republican.” — Harry Reid, Senate Majority Leader I don’t really like Reid. In fact, I don’t really like the...

– Rahm Emanuel, Barak Obama’s Chief of Staff This is kind of frightening. I guess Rahm enjoyed his time in the Israeli Defense Forces so much that he thought their model of compulsion/indoctrination would work well in America too. (via tumbledore) This has been reblogged a lot and I’m told I’m...

From Tapped: From an Obama-Biden transition press release: This morning, President-elect Barack Obama will attend parent teacher conferences at his daughters’ school with his wife Michelle. I’m not sure if it’s awesome or terrifying to be those teachers. Is it silly that Obama going to a PTC before he has his first press conference as President-elect makes me like him more?

Now can we have a "dislike" button?
johnbrissenden: For those “I disagree with this person’s point, but engaging with them and explaining why I disagree is just too much trouble” moments.  Seconded.

The Change We Need
bg5000: While the Obama campaign didn’t make a lot of mistakes during the run up to the election, i have to say that not promoting his pro-college football playoff stance more heavily may have been one of the biggest. He could’ve picked up a lot of votes in SEC country if he had. Thank god it didn’t come down to that.

The Treatment of Bush Has Been a Disgrace →
barthel: onemoretimewithfeeling: I never voted for him, but I do believe that he (somewhat unfairly) became the symbol of everything that has gone wrong in the past 8 years. Remember, the president is just one of three branches of our government. Not to be a dick about this, but do you folks really not understand how Bush is responsible for almost all the bad stuff the government’s done over...

Mandates
Ezra Klein: According to recent campaign narratives, the American people have now given Barack Obama an overwhelming mandate for the following projects: 1) Socialism. 2) Putting the coal industry out of business. 3) Wealth spreading. 4) More socialism. 5) Making Joe the Plumber’s life a living hell. 6) Taking away everyone’s guns. Even those held by police. 7) Government-run...

jgh: OK, but besides the Supreme Court opinion — or within the Supreme Court opinion — what are the facts to prove that voter fraud isn’t just a “boogyman”? I’d like to see numbers to back up that conclusion. This NY Times article is a good place to start. But to see that voter fraud is a non-issue, you don’t have to take their word for it. Just look at it logically. The Anonymous...

At my polling place, they weren't asking for ID of...
jgh: I just gave my name and voted. What’s to stop some other chick from walking up to the polls, saying she’s “Jessica Haralson” and voting in my name? Obviously that’s far-fetched, but just asking! The biggest thing that would keep this from happening is the high risk / low return factor. If someone votes as you the most that they’re going to accomplish is changing one vote (although...

To My Liberal Friends
jeffmiller: After Obama wins, push him.  Don’t let him coast.  Don’t let him pander.  Push him. Push him to end the discrimination against gays in the military. Push him to close Guantanamo Bay. Push him to place a morotorium on the death penalty. Push him to support gay marriage. Push him to keep church and state separate. Push him to protect free speech. Push him to protect free trade. ...

Not that you need to hear this from me but . . .
bg5000: Remember that episode of The Simpsons where, much to the chagrin of Krabappel and Skinner, Bart decides to run against Martin for class president? And after he runs a fantastic campaign, it looks like Bart might actually win, but then all of his “supporters” just show up to the victory party for the free cupcakes and don’t bother to vote, making Martin the winner. Remember that episode?...
